When traveling, my friends are often thousands of miles and doubly more kilometers from me. FaceTime, whatsapp video and Facebook messenger video all collapse the distance.
Often when I have at least 30 minutes ahead of me with no clear plan what to do, I check my world clock, see what friends are up in what time zones and begin calling, until I connect with someone.
Unscheduled and serendipitous, we reconnect over the randomness. Much like a friendship can be built by unexpected plans fortuitously working out:
Dorian wanting to yoga,
Quynh wanting to try a new restaurant,
Gemma wanting to slumber party,
or Jess wanting a dance party
so, too, can it be nourished by the revelry of encounters that feel like a magic trick- for a moment we exist in two spaces and times. When unplanned, I am transported to whatever time a friend is going about their day and the gift of following along. FaceTime sessions are some of those moments captured.
